10000% this. My partner is currently in his second year of law school and was a bartender before we moved for him to attend. His program had more free food than free booze at events before COVID — but during undergrad at readings (I studied writing) there was ALWAYS free wine. I can definitely see this being especially toxic for those that went straight from undergrad to law school or Masters programs. We are in our 30s, but worked in the restaurant industry so drinking was a massive part of our lives for a long time. I wholeheartedly agree that booze shouldn’t be an incentive to attend events at school.
